Last autumn while driving on my way to work, I watched a black bear dash across the intersection at Gaglardi way heading onto the major highway... this bear stopped in front of a senior walking on the sidewalk! The senior stopped and began to immediately wave his cane at the bear... Just when I was about to honk my horn to spook it away. The bear dashed into the bushes...

Within that same week local news announced a black bear had been caught in a neighbourhood... in burnaby and was later euthanized... Sept 4th 2025...

Since learning traditional Northwest Coast Art...I have also heard stories about different animals including black bears. One specific memory from Freda Diesing School of Northwest coast art...while working in the studio a dear Haida friend Guustlas
