Redition and answer to the original painting titled “What does Water Represent?”. The story behind this name comes from a lesson during my time at Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art. On a day where our cohort heard some traditional stories from a visiting Nisga'a Elder/Chief/Master Carver, he asked "....who was the first carver?" expecting us to guess a specific person or nation... We had no answer... to which he continued... "Water is known as the first Carver"... 

This story stayed with me and the importance of acknowledging water as a being... capable of the creation of rivers, valleys, streams, and "carving" its own path...
